VIADUCT Annual Conference, Istanbul 2019
As part of the Viaduct week, Sabanci University hosted the Annual Viaduct Conference in Istanbul, Turkey on 20-21 March, 2019. The conference focused around the theme of EU-Turkey relations and addressed the Viaduct networks’ many cross sectorial issues, the five working groups of the conference included Power, Resources, People, Future of Europe and Teaching Turkey-European Union Relations. Participants from all the Viaduct partners from European and Turkish universities contributed to discussions ranging from power and resources, to mobility of the masses. Another critical aspect of this conference was to discuss the current state of teaching EU-Turkey relations and produce alternative ways in teaching the subject to students of European Studies on all levels. The conference also included a policy makers debate with participants from the EU Delegation, political section councellor Julian Vassallo, EDAM President Sinan Ülgen, TEPAV EU Director Nilgün Arısan Eralp discussing the future of EU-Turkey relations and the developments that have led to the current situation. The highlight of the conference was a keynote from the EU Ambassador Christian Berger where H.E. discussed the current state of affairs.
