Wolfgang Wessels

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wessels is the director of CETEUS since 2016. He holds a Jean Monnet Chair since 1994 and an “ad personam” Jean Monnet Chair since 2011.


He is vice-president of the consortium for the foundation of the Turkish-German University in Istanbul and academic leader of the MA programme “European and International Affairs”. He coordinates the research projects FEUTURE (Horizon 2020) and “Turkey as an Energy Hub” (Stiftung Mercator).


He has long-standing teaching and training experience, e.g. at the College of Europe and the Diplomatic Academy Vienna and has published articles in several A-journals. His teaching and research focus includes the EU’s developments, integration theories, enlargement processes and the EU’s external action, especially regarding EU-Turkey relations.

He is the former chairman of the EU-wide network TEPSA (Trans European Policy Studies Association) and chairman of the Institut für Europäische Politik.
